5 Tips to Bridal Registry

June 23, 2009

1) Give Yourself Time to Register: The earlier you register, the sooner you know that everything you want to available and on your registry.

2) Register Together: You should try to register together.  By doing this you can eliminate alot of items that you really don’t need. It’s easy to get carried away and register for 3 muffins tins and 2 different types of bottle opens.  However, you should register for whatever you want regardless of the price.  You may not get that $500.00 duvet cover from your friends, but perhaps receive a gift card that can be used towards its purchase.

3) Check Back Often:  You should check back every so often to make sure that everything is OK with the registry.  If you know your Aunt Maria bought you the iron and ironing board for your bridal shower, make sure the store has crossed it off your registry.  Make sure you understand and agree to the return policy.

4) Think of your Guests:  Make sure the store offers a couple of different ways that your guests can purchase your registered items: online, phone or in-store.  Register for a variety of different priced items so that your guests can make a comfortable decision on the amount spent on your gift.

5) Thank-yous:  Have those thank you cards ready to go as you begin receiving your registered items.  Keeping on top of this makes things much easier for you in the long run.

Bridal Registry

June 17, 2009

A bridal registry is a service provided by retail stores to assist engaged couples in the communication of gift preferences to wedding guests. Selecting items from store stock, the couple lists desired items and files this list with the chosen merchant. The list is then made available to wedding guests, either by the couple’s family or the merchant.

Upon the purchase of a listed item, this gift registry is updated accordingly. In addition to providing valuable information for the buyer, the system helps prevent the receipt of duplicate or unwanted gifts, potentially saving time for both giver and recipient.

There are many different types of registries a bridal couple can have; kitchen, tools, honeymoon or charity to name a few.

Take the time to decide what you want and need, and start early you may need the time to make your selections.

5 Tips to Wedding Reception Decorating

June 8, 2009

You will spend most of your planning time on reception and reception decorating, that’s where all the celebrating occurs.  So where do you begin?

1) Select a theme.  That’s the easiest way to achieve a elegantly decorating reception hall.  When you choose a theme, it allows you to narrow down your decorating scheme.  Themes can be created by a color you love, movie you enjoy or a place you have been too.

2)  Evaluate your reception space.  Take pictures of your reception hall, so that you can sit back and view what areas would be best suited for certain aspects of your wedding reception.  Find out where the reception manager normally sets up the tables.  Can you changes this or does the normal way work well for you?  Where can the band or DJ set their stage?  Can you move anything around to better suit your needs?

3)  Work within your budget.  You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to achieve an elegant look for your reception hall.  Most reception venues will have a large selection of decorations that can be used, some may even be FREE so ask!  Start shopping early, for those great sales.

4) You will want to get a lot of ideas for the decorations, so you’ll need to do some research. Bridal magazines and the internet are great areas to start your research.

5)  Express your personality through the decorations.  A truely successful wedding is a wedding that is an extension of the couple.  This may help you select your theme!

Bridal Hairstyles

June 2, 2009

bride-hair-down-1

Found the perfect dress, now what to do with your hair!  If I had to summary in more words this year’s wedding hairstyles I would have to say they are sexy, elegant, simple and gorgeous.  The trend being more about the hair and less about the veil, if there is a veil at all.

There are thousands of different ways you can wear your hair on your wedding day.  Some may flatter you more than others.

This video from Mon Cheri found on YouTube is a great example of all the wedding hairstyles there are out there.

Before you meet with your hairstylist there are a few things you should have in order.

1) You should have decided on your headpiece and have it with you for your first appointment.  Options for headpieces can be tiaras, headbands, hair clips, fresh flowers and silk flowers.

2) Look through wedding magazines to narrow down your selection.  By flipping through a bridal magazine you will see how brides wear their hair given their gown.

Search online for those trendy celebrity wedding hairstyles.  You will have an idea of the type of hairstyle that best suits you.  After all you want to look like yourself on your wedding day.  You wouldn’t put your hair all up if you have never worn it that way before.  You want to be comfortable in your choice.

3) Be comfortable with your choice in hairstylists.  Maybe your current hairstylist is great with color and cuts, but not a pro with bridal hairstyles.  I don’t think your hairstylist will be offended if you were to ask for someone who is more comfortable doing wedding hairstyles.  Less stressful for everyone involved.

Wedding Favors-Finding your Wedding Thank You Gifts

May 6, 2009

Wedding Favor FramesThe idea of giving away wedding favors has been dated back several centuries.  It has been said  that wedding favors started with the Europeans, especially the higher class of Italians and French. The wedding favors were then sugar cubes, since sugar was quite an expensive commodity during that era. Sugar also symbolizes wealth and royalty.

These sugar cubes or confections were placed inside small trinket boxes called “Bonbonieres”. The boxes were made of crystal, porcelain or metal and decorated with precious or semi-precious stones. The bonbonieres were given by the bride and groom to their wedding guests as gestures of thanks for sharing in their wedding day.

Since a wedding day is regarded as good luck and to beginning of much happiness, giving this gift is like extending a piece of your happiness to your guests.  Different cultures have different traditions in what is given as a bonboniere.  The most traditional and one we still see today is to distribute this good luck by preparing a small gift of almond candies, beautifully wrapped in an elegant fabric. The custom is to provide five almonds to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness.

Some brides like to attach their bonboniere to a thank you gift.  There are different types of wedding thank you favors a bridal couple can purchase. Some couples decide to make a donation to an organization of their choice in lieu of purchasing a thank you gift for their guests, other purchase a small keepsake gift, such as a frame or candle holder. Whatever your choice, wedding favors are a nice gesture, one that shouldn’t be overlooked.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to show your guests your thankfulness, the thought only goes a long way. Whether you are having a beach wedding or a garden wedding, HerWeddingShop has what you are looking for. Check us out today!
